Jenelle Evans‘ boyfriend David Eason was married before he met the Teen Mom 2 star.

According to a new report, Eason‘s past includes a criminal record, two kids and now, a secret marriage, which was exposed last week around the time of his ex-wife's debut appearance on the MTV reality show.

"Eason married Whitney Johnson in North Carolina on October 21, 2006," Radar Online reported, citing court records of the New Hanover Country Clerk of Superior Court.

Nearly seven years into their relationship, and after welcoming a child together, daughter Maryssa, who is often seen on the show with Evans and Eason, Eason filed for divorce on July 23, 2013 and on September 9, 2013, their split was finalized.

“They were married, she was a big part of the family,” Eason's sister, April Eason McKeithan confirmed to Radar Online. “They grew up together and were very young when they had Maryssa.”

Even after the divorce, Johnson has “maintained a friendship” with the family.

Earlier this year, Evans opened up about Eason and their relationship.

"He's a very hard worker, and I love that about him," Evans told PEOPLE Magazine. "He doesn't care about me making money, or how much I get, he still pays his own bills, and he still gives me money for rent and everything, which I've never had any boyfriend do!"

"Jace absolutely loves him, [he] always wants to be around him," Evans continued of her 6-year-old son. "And he has an 8-year-old daughter that comes and spends the weekends along with Jace, so they get along very well and everyone is just really happy."

"[I] can definitely see him as a great person [to have kids with]," Evans added of Eason's daddy skills, but at that point, she confirmed they were "taking things slow."

"We're not looking into marriage or kids or [anything] like that," she said. "I even said on camera, I said: 'I'll be miserable for the rest of my life as long as I have my family together.' But honestly, it's really about being happy, and if you're not happy, your kids aren't going to happy, and that's the most important thing."
