Paparazzi caught candid snaps on Monday of Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx dressed in costume as Electro during film production for The Amazing Spiderman 2.

Foxx will play Spiderman's enemy in the sequel to the reboot. Photos released from the film set in New York City show the Texas actor reprising Electro with Avatar blue-inspired makeup. He was photographed while filming in New York City's Times Square area.

Foxx discussed the costume created for him in a recent interview. Electro's costume is green and yellow in Marvel comic books but the Django Unchained star said his will be a "different color."

"They (the producers) want something for the future. They want to have it more grounded and not as comic book-y, so it won't be green and yellow," Foxx told Blackfilm.com. "They want to try new things, like a liquid rubber and things like that, and there are all these bolts and stuff in my arms when they are hanging me upside down and trying to figure out what happen. How did he become this way? So, it will be some new stuff."

Electro is the alter ego to Maxwell Dillon, an aspiring electrical engineer who becomes a superhero after he is struck by lightning. Electro decides to use his new superpower- to draw up electricity- for evil.

Foxx - who is at the center of controversy on Twitter for his fashion statement at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards- said he is excited to be attached to a film project that is well-received by the film's lead star and director.

"In the script, this villain is the first time it's be written really, really well," he said. "Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb both commented on how great the script is, so it should be an exciting time."

Production for the film began in New York in early 2013. Garfield will reprise the role of Peter Parker/Spider Man and his real-life girlfriend, Emma Stone, will play Gwen Stacy again. There are several new additions to the cast in addition to Foxx: Shailene Woodley will play Mary Jane Watson and Dane DeHaan will play Harry Osborn, the son of the Green Goblin. Harry Osborn was played by James Franco in the original 2004 Spiderman film. Webb also directed 2012's The Amazing Spiderman.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is scheduled for release on May 2, 2014.
