The Nintendo NX is arguably the most cryptic among the next-generation consoles slated to be released next year. Despite Nintendo being extremely tight-lipped about the development of its next flagship gaming machine, the rumor mill has managed to acquire a number of notable facts about the NX's internals. From what could be deduced so far, the Nintendo NX will indeed be a new breed of gaming device.

Sources, who have opted to remain anonymous, have stated to tech website Eurogamer that the Nintendo NX would be a portable gaming machine that can double as a home console and a handheld device. Also, the NX would allegedly be powered not by and AMD chip like the Sony PlayStation 4 and the Microsoft Xbox One. Instead, the NX would be powered by the Nvidia Tegra, the same chip installed on the Google Pixel C tablet.

Design-wise, the sources have stated that the NX would feature a high-powered tablet with detachable controllers, allowing players to take their games on the go. The tablet could then be hooked up to a television through a dock, where it would function as a full-fledged home gaming console.

Thus, if the sources' information prove to be accurate, the NX would most probably be the definitive replacement for both the 3DS and the Wii U, with its capability to seamlessly transition from a portable handheld to a full-fledged home gaming machine.

However, going with the Nvidia Tegra chip does come with its own set of limitations. For one, the Tegra is primarily designed for mobile computing. Thus, it would no really be able to hold a candle to the sheer power that is being provided by the AMD chips in the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.

Despite this, the Tegra actually makes sense considering Nintendo's decision to design the NX as a handheld/console hybrid. The Nvidia Tegra might not be able to offer as much horsepower as the chips in Sony and Microsoft's device, but what it lacks in power, it makes up for in endurance and possibly the best handheld gaming experience possible.

Nintendo has stated that it is targeting fast play at 900p and 60+ FPS, which is a far cry from the capabilities of its rivals. Transpose such specs into a portable machine, however, and the NX practically becomes a league of its own.

Of course, even if Eurogamer's sources have claimed that the information provided was accurate, only time will tell if Nintendo does indeed employ all these innovations to the upcoming NX. If any, there is only one thing that is really sure, and that is the fact that the Nintendo NX would be a very notable entry on the next generation of console gaming.
