Is Colin Kaepernick secretly Muslim?

As NFL players around the country join the San Francisco 49ers quarterback in his boycott against the National Anthem, which he claims is due to the ongoing discrimination in the country, news of his girlfriend's Muslim roots have surfaced leading many to believe he may have converted to Islam.

"Fresh allegations have been raised against the 49er's quarterback, Colin Kaepernick for not standing during the singing of the American national anthem in August," World Religion News reported on Monday. "This time, critics accuse him of having converted to Islam under the influence of his Muslim girlfriend and her family members. Kaepernick shocked spectators by refusing to stand during the anthem, saying that he did not want to show respect to a nation that discriminated between its people of different races."

Last year, Kaepernick began dating Nessa Diab, star of MTV's Girl Code and host of the Teen Mom reunion and after show specials and a short time later, it was rumored that Kaepernick was attempting to be released from his contract with the 49ers so that he could relocate to an east coast team.

Although Kaepernick has denied reports of his conversion to Islam, he said, via World Religion News, that he has a "great love" for the religion and found a number of Muslims to be "great people." He also said he believed the accusations of conversion he was facing stemmed from a "deep hatred and fear of Islam."
