Andy Cohen revealed this week that he was diagnosed with skin cancer, and it may have gotten worse without the advisement of Kelly Ripa.

Cohen was the co-host on Live With Kelly Friday where he revealed how Ripa told him to go to the doctor after spotting a black dot on his lip. The Watch What Happens Live host told the story on Friday's Live!:

"You and I were at a party for Anderson's [Cooper] mom in April, and you said, 'You have a black dot on your lip, I don't think that's something good,'" Cohen explained to Ripa. "It was melanoma and they removed it, and I just want to thank you because you were so dogmatic ... The lip heals very well and I really had a chunk removed out of it."

Cohen thanked Ripa profusely, admitting that the cancer scare "will change my relationship to the sun," adding, "I am tanorexic, I love the sun. And I of course never thought that kind of thing would happen to me."

Ripa noted that this was actually the third time she pointed out a mark on a friend, telling the audience the importance of getting checked out.

Cohen has grappled with his own mortality in other ways recently, admitting to Today's Matt Lauer that writing his new book, Superficial, made him long for something more in life.

"I think it was a moment of my life, and we all have moments of extreme happiness and loneliness a lot, and that was a moment I was having," he admitted. "I am the least introspective person typically, but the course of writing this diary, actually, for three years has made me think about things in a totally different way."

And he might be open to having children.

He said he was "opening myself up to love and a relationship and maybe a kid. I think I'm closer to that spot than I ever was."
