David O. Russell may be ready to get on board wit Leonardo DiCaprio's John F. Kennedy assassination film Legacy of Secrecy.

DiCaprio picked up the project via his Appian Way productions several years ago. Based on the 2009 eponymous book by Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann, the plot centers around a conspiracy theory about who was behind the assassination of America's 35th president.

According to Slash Film, the story stems from a confession given to FBI informant Jack van Laningham by mobster Marcello. At the time Marcello claimed he was the one who ordered the killing of John F. Kennedy.

Showbiz 411 talked to van Laningham's son Craig who claims that Russell is already attached to the film. The younger van Laningham states that Russell is slated to write and direct while Robert De Niro will take up the role of Marcello. Meanwhile, DiCaprio would play Jack van Laningham.

Russell is just coming off the success of Silver Linings Playbook and is currently directing Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence in American Hustle and is listed as announced to direct Nailed.

According to AV Club, Legacy of Secrecy is not the only JFK based film to be in the works. Tom Hanks is currently producing Parkland, JJ Abrams may get his hands on the Stephen King sci-fi 11/22/63, and David Mamet is working on Blackbird.
