Yesterday fashion critics were crying foul over Nicole Kidman's Cannes Film Festival dress, claiming it was the same Valentino that Anne Hathaway almost wore for the Oscars.

This statement turned out to be false. A Valentino representative confirmed to Us Weekly that the dress is in fact different.

Hathaway caused quite a bit of pre-Academy Awards drama back in February. Following the Oscar rehearsal on Feb. 22, Hathaway learned that co-star Amanda Seyfried was planning on wearing a very similar dress and reportedly threw a fit before ultimately switching to a Prada gown, according to People.

"It came to my attention late Saturday night that there would be a dress worn to the Oscars that is remarkably similar to the Valentino I had intended to wear, and so I decided it was best for all involved to change my plans," the 30-year-old Oscar winner said at the time, according to People.

When Kidman arrived at the premiere of Nebraska in an ivory gown with floral lace overlay, the media seized upon the idea that she was wearing Hathaway's throwaways.

Although the dress is similar, Huffington Post reports that it is from the same Valentino Haute Couture collection, it is not in fact the controversy inducing dress from the Academy Awards.
