This is the ultimate gift for The Vampire Diaries fans. After all those mind-boggling speculations and rumours regarding the return of Nina Dobrev aka Elena, the confirmation has arrived. Nina, herself, announced her comeback for the finale of the series.

Nina Dobrev announced the return of Elena for the finale of The Vampire Diaries on Instagram, reports E! News. She posted a photo of the series finale script and captioned it with the hashtag #BackOnSet and #TVDForever. The photo also gave out the title of the finale, which is I was Feeling Epic. The icing on the cake is that Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson have written it together and the former is ready to direct it.

Plec also issued a statement about the finale saying that she is thrilled to bring this show to an end, the way the team always intended, which is having Dobrev back to help them say goodbye. Williamson too expressed happiness that Nina was back to ensure their farewell episode is truly epic. Well, the return of the Bulgarian actress is definitely awesome news for Delena fans.

Notably, the suspense over Dobrev's return had kept them on tenterhooks and caused a lot of frenzy. Neither was it confirmed nor denied all this while. When asked by the media, Nina gave a cryptic reply while Plec expressed hope that she would return. However, now it is affirmed.

As fans may recall, Nina left the show after Season 6 and it led to a drop in the ratings, claims Fox News. When The Vampire Diaries premiered in 2009, it drew 4.91 million viewers, which was also an achievement for The CW. However, Nina's departure did dent the popularity of the show and many lost interest in watching the vampire saga.

At present, the series enjoys an average of around 950,000 viewers and a rating of 0.4 in the 18-49 demographic. Since the current Season 8 is the last of the series and now that Nina Dobrev is also coming back, it is hoped the next episodes will see a rise in viewership.

The Vampire Diaries finale is scheduled to air Mar. 10 on The CW.
