Patricia Houston on Whitney Houston's Death

Oprah Winfrey: Did you think that drugs would end up taking her? Did you think that?

Patricia Houston: "The handwriting was on the wall. I would be kidding myself to say otherwise."

O: But were you always afraid of that day, Feb. 11 showing up in your life, of getting a phone call or hearing that this is the day that it's happening, were you afraid that she would be gone too soon?

P: "If things hadn't changed, but things were changing. Things were really changing with her. Very much so. It wasn't about substance abuse or anything like that relative to the latter days or anything like that. I think it was more of lifestyle. I was afraid for other things, lifestyle more so than..."

O: What did you see that caused you to have some concerns and fears?

P: "You know I saw her chasing a dream, looking for love in all the wrong places."

Patricia Houston on Whitney Houston's Relationship with Bobby Brown

O: There are so many people who would want to blame Bobby Brown or blame him for introducing her to drugs or blame him for the relationship. What do you say about that?

P: "I can't say that he introduced drugs to her. I don't think that's true. Bobby and I had a good relationship and she would always tell me 'You're always trying to protect him.' I said no, I'm protecting truth, you know, and I said I can't do it any other way and you are wrong right now for what you're saying and what you're doing. And I said, I can't go along with that."

O: Were they good for each other, or was that just combustion?

P: "Well you could never tell because there was always so much outside interference. So much outside interference it was very hard. Their realities weren't everyone else's and it's very difficult, you know, if you've got, family members demanding certain things from you. Then the world certain things from you. And all of that congestion, how can you make it work?

Patricia Houston on Whitney Houston's Party Incident

O: You were at that party before her death, with her.

P:"That Thursday night."

O: It was Thursday.

P: "Yeah. I went with her because I was concerned, you know."

O: What were you concerned about?

P: "Because I know that she wanted to go out and she wanted to have a good time and..."

O: So were you going as sister protector? Sister protector.

P: "I was going as sister protector that night, yes."

O: Not so much to party but to make sure she was ok.

P: "Make sure she was going to be ok."

O: I see that.

P: "When she walked in you had the red carpet, she and Krissy walked in by themselves. We walked in way behind. You notice how they got them in by themselves when they come out I'm right there holding on. If you look at the pictures I am so mad. You know I'm coming out of there and my face is like oh my God."

O: Because what happened in there?
