After being held responsible for the death of a 78-year-old man, tennis star Venus Williams broke down at a press conference on Monday when asked about the incident.

The incident occurred on June 9 in Palm Beach Gardens, where Williams crashed into Jerome Barson, who was the passenger, and his wife, Linda Barson, the driver.

The collision happened at a four-way intersection, where a witness confessed to seeing Williams speeding into the intersection when she did not have the right away.

Jerome Barson suffered massive internal bleeding, a fractured spine and extreme internal organ damage. He was pronounced dead on Thursday, June 22, which happened to be his wife's birthday.

At the press conference, Williams broke down in tears after she was asked about the car crash she was being held responsible for.

According to TMZ, cops say she impeded oncoming traffic by trying to get past a street light.

"There are really no words to describe, like, how devastating," Williams said. "I'm completely speechless."

"I am devastated and heartbroken by this accident. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Jerome Barson and I continue to keep them in my thoughts and prayers," Williams posted on Facebook on Friday.

Williams is facing a lawsuit from Barson's family accusing her of negligence. Both parties have hired attorneys and the death of Jerome Barson is being put in the hands of Venus Williams.
