Is Superman going to be the summer's biggest star?

Man of Steel opened in U.S. theaters on Friday and it has already grossed $56 million, according to Forbes.

The film reportedly brought in $44 million on Friday. It also brought in $12 million from advanced screenings offered by Walmart stores on the night before the film's official release.

If these numbers are accurate, the superhero film, so far, has earned the second greatest opening day figures for a non-sequel. The first is The Hunger Games starring Jennifer Lawrence, which brought in $67 million when it opened in theaters in March 2012, Forbes also said.

With numbers like these, Man of Steel could have an incredible opening weekend surpassing the successes of other big films such as Iron Man, Spider-Man and Alice In Wonderland.

As previously reported by Enstars, the superhero flick is expected to bring in anywhere from $75 million to $115 million in ticket sales on its opening weekend.

These predictions, however, may be too low.

The Zack Snyder directed film may even bring in $120 million over the weekend, according to Exhibitor Relations, which credits itself as "the leader in the field of entertainment research and data."

Perhaps these numbers come thanks to actor Henry Cavill who plays Superman in the film.

"He feels real. He doesn't feel like this ethereal angel," the film's screenwriter David S. Goyer told The Los Angeles Times in an interview Friday. "Somehow he found a way to embody Superman but not get lost in Superman."

In addition, Cavill told Cineplex Magazine in a September 2012 interview, that he is aware how important this role is to people. Still, he said he avoided the weight on his shoulder.

"I don't let the pressures get to me because that's going to hinder my performance and, therefore, let people down," he said. "So I choose to ignore the pressure side of it and focus on doing justice to Superman."
