Seth Meyers's son Axel Strahl is wasting no time, entering the world in dramatic fashion on the floor of the apartment lobby.

Meyers, 44, and wife, Alexi Ashe, are also parents to a 2-year-old son Ashe Olson.

A Lightning Fast Delivery

During the opening bit of Late Night with Seth Meyers, the host joyfully relays the birth of his second son, Axel Strahl. However, the delivery story is anything but ordinary.

The couple was just taking it slow on the day of the birth, having expected their baby to come at any moment. What they didn't know was how quickly their son is actually going to arrive.

"I figured we had plenty of time to get to the hospital," Meyers tells his audience during the show, pointing out that even their firstborn had a fast delivery, but they were able to make it to the hospital in the nick of time.

So the foursome — Meyers, Ashe, his mother-in-law, and their doula — boarded on the elevator to get to the Uber that's supposed to take them to the hospital. When they begin going down the steps of their building, Ashe stops in her tracks and tells them that she is about to have the baby at the moment.

"She looked like someone who was hiding a baby in a pair of sweatpants," the SNL alum describes. "It was like somebody was trying to sneak a baby on a plane."

With no time to spare on a drive to the hospital, the family instead headed back to the lobby where Ashe decided to deliver the baby on the floor of the building. At that point, the baby's head was already out, Meyers says.

"I called 911 and over the course of a minute conversation, I basically said, 'We're about to have a baby, we're having a baby, we had a baby,'" he recalls. "I went from someone calling in about an emergency to just sharing good news with a stranger."

Meyers went on to express his gratitude to all the people who helped out during the unconventional delivery including the fire department, the NYPD, EMT, medical team, and his family.

One of the firemen who showed up even cut the umbilical cord, which the host was surprised to learn he knows how to do well.

There is one participant to the event that Meyers jokingly refused to thank: Uber, who apparently charged him for the trip to the hospital they weren't able to take.

According to a report from Entertainment Tonight, Uber released a statement to announce they refunded the late night host.

A New Member Of The Family

Meyers gets emotional up when he begins talking about his family, particularly his son's second name, which the couple adopted from Ashe's grandparents who were Holocaust survivors.

"When someone is born, you just have such an appreciation for everyone in your lineage who lived so you could have this moment," he explains.

Meyers also took the time to rave about his "rock star" wife who he is in awe of for giving birth to their babies.

"This kid's gonna be okay because of her," Meyers says tearfully. Then he quips, "I'm just getting choked up thinking how brave I was."
