For the first time since her drug overdose incident in 2018, Demi Lovato finally opened up about her realizations on self-love.

The "Stone Cold" singer left strong commentaries about the difference between accepting one's body and body positivity. In her recent interview with Teen Vogue's Editor-in-Chief Lindsay Peoples Wagner, she referred to this 2019 as an "introspective" year for her.

Lovato opened up that she contemplated a lot about her body and finally learned to accept it rather than fitting herself into something to promote body positivity.

"To be honest, I don't always feel positive about my body. Sometimes I do not like what I see. I don't sit there and dwell on it. I also don't lie to myself," she said.

Lovato added that accepting her body made her discover what she has always been capable of doing, but she restricted herself from doing it since she became more focused on changing her body to offer body positivity.

In relation to this, it should be noted the 27-year old singer posted her "biggest fear" photo on her Instagram page. It showed Lovato in a bikini that revealed her cellulite. However, far from her previous reactions when she suffered from an eating disorder, she began promoting self-love and asked her fans to love their bodies, too.

Lovato admitted that she used to edit her photographs to pass society's standards and definitions of beauty. But through the help of her darkest moments in the past, she finally decided to stand up for herself and show the "authentic" Demi.

The "Sober" hitmaker also told Wagner that she used to lie to herself by repeatedly uttering how she loved her body and tried to convince herself that there was nothing wrong. Nonetheless, she exchanged all the "You are beautiful" and "Your body is wonderful" compliments with "You are healthy" and she saw nothing wrong about that.

This kind of acceptance helped her change her goals when working out as well.

Rather than giving her body heavy and unhealthy workouts to get that "body goals," she remodeled her target and decided to go to the gym to make her body healthy and stronger.

Darkest Moments To Inspiration

The now-27-year-old singer reportedly suffered from a drug overdose on July 24, 2018. Lovato, before the incident, already spoke up about her struggles in having an eating disorder, bipolar disorder, and sobriety. She admitted that at the early age of 17, she tried drugs for the first time and fell into it.

The singer released her song "Sober" one month before the incident and apologized to her fans who watched her "fell again" through the song.

Per Kit Hoover of Access Holywood in 2013, Lovato confessed that she could not go without taking drugs every 30 minutes to one hour. She also shared a story about how she even smuggled cocaine and brought it on airplanes to take them there on the spot.

These incidents helped her realize what she wanted in her life, and she doesn't regret anything that happened to her. As she made it closer to self-healing, she continued promoting self-love and encouraged her fans not to be afraid of what other people think.
