The royal family has been on their toes since the bare-all interview of Prince Andrew. The revelation about his special friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has put the prince in hot water.

A few days after his disastrous interview, Prince Andrew has declared his withdrawal from all his royal duties. The Queen agreed to his decision.

Where is the rest of the royal family in all these? What does the future king have to say?

Prince William's Role

Palace sources confirmed to People that Prince William played a key role in the decision to remove Prince Andrew from all his royal duties. The decision came after a tell-all interview of Prince Andrew and the shocking revelation of his close relationship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein

In the wake of Prince Andrew's interview, the Queen talked to the senior members of the royal family, including Prince William. She consulted both his son, Prince Charles and the Duke of Cambridge. She kept all of them informed of what was to happen before Prince Andrew, 59, made his formal announcement, sources told PEOPLE.

It is no longer a surprise that Prince William has stepped up as a senior member, as he has been taking part in the strategic duties and decisions of the royal family.

For several years now, the Duke of Cambridge has been carrying investitures in honor of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Recently, he was able to carry his own audience on her behalf.

In the last year or so, Prince William has also been carrying out more meaningful diplomatic roles, including his visits to Pakistan and Israel.

Prince Andrew Lost His Royal Ties

While Prince William takes on a more important role as a senior royal at his young age, his uncle, Prince Andrew has been receiving a lot of criticism about his association with Epstein.

A growing number of sponsores and charities have already withdrawn their association with Prince Andrew. It has also been suggested by the royal family that the 200 charities and causes on the roster of the Duke of York be mothballed at the moment.

Palace sources told People that there are no changes in the announcement that Prince Andrew made. He will still step down from all his public duties as part of the royal family.

Within an unspecified period, Prince Andrew will not be taking any activities as part of his duties to the royal family. Following that, the links he has made with several organizations have yet to be severed, keeping only a few associations.

At least, the controversial royalty will have a few of them to his name when he decides to return.

The royal family has been through several controversies this year and in all these, Prince William has found himself in the midst of important decision making.

It is not just his title as the Duke of Cambridge that makes him do all the heavy lifting. The royal father of three only sees to it that his kids grow up as a part of the royal family with dignity to their name.

The royal duties he has been exposed to at a young age will only make Prince William more prepared to take on the role of the king when the time comes.
