Bob Saget's family filed a lawsuit against the officials as more details about the actor's death continue to be publicized.

Saget's wife, Kelly Rizzo, is joined by the actor's three daughters - Aubrey, Laura, and Jennifer - in preventing the authorities to release more information about his death through a lawsuit. In a document obtained by PEOPLE, the actor's family sues Orange County Sheriff John Mina and the District Nine Medical Examiner's Office.

They filed the case on Tuesday, and they aimed to stop the release of further details about the 65-year-old star's death. The bereaved family said that keeping the investigation confidential would prevent "irreparable harm in the form of extreme mental pain, anguish, and emotional distress" to the family.

Aside from the future reports and other materials, Rizzo and his daughters also want the information that was already recorded to be out from public records. They only asked for a temporary injunction, but the court could decide whether to permanently block the release of further information about Bob Saget's death.

Bob Saget's Cause of Death

The lawsuit came after the family confirmed that Saget died due to head trauma he suffered from. The actor reportedly hit the back of his head on something and did nothing about it. He then went to sleep and never woke up.

The family added that no drugs and alcohol were involved in his passing.

"As we continue to mourn together, we ask everyone to remember the love and laughter that Bob brought to this world, and the lessons he taught us all: to be kind to everyone, to let the people you love know you love them, and to face difficult times with hugs and laughter," the family went on.

The official autopsy report said that an "unwitnessed fall backwards" caused the actor to suffer head trauma. The list of extensive skull fractures and brain injuries includes subgaleal hemorrhage, subdural hematoma, discoloration in the upper and lower eyelids due to skull fracture, and posterior scalp abrasions, among others.

Experts not involved in the investigation have since tagged Saget's cause of death as something not uncommon as thousands of Americans die yearly from traumatic brain injury, and most of these cases are due to falls.
