Aariel Maynor, the suspect in Jacqueline Avant's murder, has changed his plea to guilty after pleading not guilty on December 17, 2021. The murder, which took place on December 1, 2021, occurred during a robbery at the Avant home. Jackie is the wife of famed music executive Clarence Avant, who famously launched many Black music artists.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón stated, "This crime continues to shock the conscience. Mrs. Avant's death was a tragic loss felt by our entire community. In this case, the defendant is facing 170 years to life in prison and is ineligible for elderly parole. Our Bureau of Victim Services will continue to be in contact with the family and their representatives to offer trauma-informed services."

According to Deadline, Maynor was attempting to kill the Avant's security guard during the robbery, and Jackie was shot during the conflict.

Previously, Avant's daughter Nicole Avant produced a Netflix documentary, "The Black Godfather," which told the story of her father Clarence. Nicole is currently married to Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos.
