Johnny Depp's medical team testified over the actor's severed finger when they were in Australia in 2015.

Both Depp and Heard faced setbacks on Monday amid the defamation trial between them. Depp launched the case in March 2019 as he alleges that his ex-wife defamed him by penning a domestic violence op-ed for The Washington Post.

During the recent showdown, jurors in the trial heard testimonies from the actor's doctor and nurse, who were both with him the night when part of his finger was cut off. They both reportedly did not witness the incident, but Depp's personal nurse, Debbie Lloyd, said she heard different stories about it from people.

According to Lloyd, as quoted by Insider, she heard that Heard threw a bottle of vodka at him that severed the finger. Meanwhile, she also learned that Depp himself slammed it with a phone.

Depp's lawsuit insisted that the first one happened, saying that the bottle shattered and cut through the bone of his finger. The "Aquaman" actress, meanwhile, countersued and denied the claims.

Did Johnny Depp Cut Off His Own Finger?

On Mar. 7, 2015, both Lloyd and Depp's doctor, David Kipper, were on an island in Australia. They were treating the actor for his opioid addiction.

The "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor reportedly sent him a text message, saying that his finger was severed.

"I cut the top of my middle finger off. What should I do? Except of course go to a hospital," Depp said. "I'm so embarrassed for jumping into anything with her."

Kipper testified that he treated the wound before taking him to the emergency room. He also instructed Depp's guards to look for the rest of the finger, and a chef found it on the floor of the kitchen where the estranged couple was fighting.

The part of the finger was then brought to the hospital and eventually reattached.

The doctor said Heard did not have any visible injuries at that time - far from what she claimed. However, he also testified that Depp told hospital workers that he cut his fingers with a knife.

A few days later, Depp texted him again about his severed body part, saying, "Thank you for everything. I have chopped off my left middle finger as a reminder that I should never cut my finger off again! I love you, brother. Johnny."
