Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker have been excited to welcome their first baby, but the couple hit a problem during their preparation.

Before their engagement last year, Kardashian and Barker reportedly decided to try getting pregnant after a few months of dating. Because of that desire, they started the in vitro fertilization (IVF) process "last summer."

A source detailed the process to PEOPLE, saying that the couple has been wanting to start their family for quite some time.

However, the process - which they thought was an easy step - challenged them.

"It's been an emotional rollercoaster. They never expected it to be as hard as it's been. It's been especially difficult for Kourtney. They still would love to have a baby. Travis is not putting any pressure on Kourtney, though. He just wants her to be happy and healthy," the insider said.

Kardashian and Barker are yet to address their pregnancy journey to the public. But if they finally welcome their baby, it would be their first child together.

Kourtney Kardashian Seeks Kris Jenner's Advice

As Kardashian and Barker continue to face some difficulties, the Poosh founder sought solace and opened up to her mother, Kris Jenner, about her desire to have a child with the drummer.

During Thursday's episode of "The Kardashians," she told the momager that she is indeed facing complications in her IVF journey. Unfortunately, it has already caused her to experience depression.

"Every single person on social media is always like, 'Kourtney's pregnant, Kourtney's pregnant, Kourtney's gained so much weight.' I'm like, it's so rude to comment on people when you have no idea what they're actually going through. The medication that they've been giving me, they put me into menopause," Kardashian said.

During the show's confessional, Kardashian spoke candidly about her body having an opposite reaction to the IVF medicines. Instead of helping her, it reportedly works as a contraceptive.

She is not the first Kardashian-Jenner member to opt for an IVF. Last year, her sister Khloe said that she and Tristan Thompson, who cheated on her again, had been wanting to give True a sibling.

At that time, she talked about doing IVF and how it served as a challenging process for her. Khloe, for what it's worth, already underwent the procedure thrice in her life.
