Sony has just dropped the first trailer for the live-action adaptation Lyle, Lyle Crocodile, based on the beloved children's book series written by Bernard Waber and with the success of classic kid's literature getting the big-screen treatment, the likes of Clifford The Big Red Dog, Paddington, or just about anything Dr. Seuss, having a singing crocodile make his theatrical debut seems inevitable.

According to the official plot synopsis:

When the Primm family (Constance Wu, Scoot McNairy, Winslow Fegley) moves to New York City, their young son Josh struggles to adapt to his new school and new friends. All of that changes when he discovers Lyle - a singing crocodile (Shawn Mendes) who loves baths, caviar and great music-living in the attic of his new home.

The two become fast friends, but when Lyle's existence is threatened by evil neighbor Mr. Grumps (Brett Gelman), the Primm's must band together with Lyle's charismatic owner, Hector P. Valenti (Javier Bardem), to show the world that family can come from the most unexpected places and there's nothing wrong with a big singing crocodile with an even bigger personality.

The trailer showcases the expressively rendered Lyle in all of his scaly glory as he sings and dances through New York City with his human counterparts.

Heavy on the theatrics, the script was written by Will Davies (How to Train Your Dragon) with original music by The Greatest Showman's Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, along with Ari Afsar, Emily Gardner, Xu Hall, Mark Sonnenblick, and Joriah Kwamé.

With such a strong pedigree of talent in its corner, Lyle, Lyle Crocodile already has a stumpy leg up when it is expected to hit theaters on October 7.
