Tom Hanks was among many who want to see Tim Allen, the original "Buzz Lightyear" voice actor, return to the "Toy Story" franchise for the "Buzz" spin-off, "Lightyear."

In an interview with Cinemablend to promote his new film "Elvis," the veteran actor confessed that he didn't "understand" why Allen wasn't the one to play "Lightyear" in the film.

At the box office, "Elvis" and "Lightyear" are competing.

As the space ranger in the upcoming film, "Avengers" star Chris Evans takes the position of Allen.

When asked about the blonde actor's appeal, Hanks said, "Just as long as people keep going to the movies." I'd like to return to the theater with a group of strangers and leave having something in common. That's exactly what I intend to accomplish."

Fans of "Toy Story" have fallen in love with Allen's interpretation of the character in recent years, and he even voiced the current "Toy Story 4" in 2019.

Allen addressed the recasting in an interview with Extra, noting that he avoided the internet buzz surrounding the film since it had nothing to do with "his" "Buzz Lightyear."

While Tom Hanks and others have expressed their disappointment that Tim Allen was recast for "Lightyear," some Twitter users had the right explanation for why the latter was not cast in the newest franchise.

According to Twitter user @PerionL, "As someone who has met Tim Allen many times, I understand it very well. He's a raging douchebag. Hope this helps."

Some other social media users expressed their disgust with Allen, with @SFBayAreaGirl tweeting how she was watching "Last Man Standing."

"Absolutely insufferable; just another Tim Allen self-worship vehicle where he does "manly" things and Carrie's around his mute grandson the whole show. Unfunny."

Twitter user @sephicloud89 gave a warning to co-social media users saying, "As a reminder, admire from afar, never meet your heroes. They're just people. And people disappoint. Simple as that."

Another person wondered that there must be another reason why Pixar didn't even consider or want Tim Allen to reprise his role as "Lightyear" in the movie.

However, some debunked the claims of Allen's behavior.

One person, @ericdaltman, said he met Allen, and was "always kind."

Another Twitter user said, "Must be you then. Everyone I know who's met he says he's lovely."

A third person, @rareP99AS, tweeted, "As someone who has met Tim Allen even more times than this guy. He's an awesome dude who rules."
