Some of the biggest stars in the film industry today didn't immediately get their shot at fame as most of them worked tirelessly during the early stages of their careers to get to where they are in the present. Dame Judi Dench isn't an exception as she recalled an unfortunate experience in the past.

Speaking to Sunday Times Magazine, the 87-year-old actress revealed a film director shockingly told her that she won't make it in the industry because of her "wrong face."

Initially, the film legend said the director was "perfectly nice" but in the end, he told her: "You'll never make a film. You have the wrong face."

Dench then added, "And I said that is fine, I don't like film anyway. I want to go back to the theatre." (via CNN Entertainment)

Although the "Murder On The Orient Express" star didn't reveal who the director was or what year it happened, the actress said she was trying to venture out into movies at the time because she's popularly known for working in theatre.

Despite the criticism and unfortunate comments she received, it didn't stop the dame from achieving her dreams to make it onto the big screen as she became one of the most notable actresses of all time.

Her first lead role was Queen Victoria in the 1997 movie "Mrs Brown."

After her film debut, Dench went on to take over the industry as she starred in countless movies, leading her to amass a total of seven Academy Award nominations and one Oscar win after playing Queen Elizabeth I in "Shakespeare in Love."

Elsewhere in the interview, the actress also shared a weird habit, saying she hasn't seen many of her movies because she would be "irritated."

"The thing about film is you do not get another go at it, there are a lot of films of mine that I have never seen and I don't want to because I would just be irritated," she said. (via IndieWire)

After her 60-year career, it appears that Dench won't be stepping away from the spotlight anytime soon as she's not thinking about retirement.

"I'm slowing down only in that I can't see to read scripts, but I will find a way," she said.

Dench's latest movie was last year's "No Time To Die."
