'One Piece' Animé Remake In The Works; Storyline Will Be 'Fresh' And 'Distinct' From Original Series

Netflix announced via a short teaser clip on Sunday that an all-new animé adaptation of the "One Piece" manga is coming to the American video-on-demand and over-the-top streaming service.

"The One Piece" is currently in production at WIT Studio, the Japanese animation studio behind "Spy x Family" and the first three seasons of "Attack on Titan," among many others.

This collaboration among Shueisha, Toei Animation, Fuji Television, WIT Studio and Netflix will be in time for "One Piece's" 25th anniversary since its creation. 

The all-new animé remake will be made by an all-new animation team, making it "distinct from the TV animé series that has captivated the audiences for over 25 years."

According to Variety, "The One Piece" will also "provide viewers with a fresh yet familiar experience, utilizing cutting-edge visual technology to reimagine Luffy's adventures through the beloved East Blue saga."

"One Piece" and animé fans were happy about this upcoming remake as they shared their thoughts and reactions on X, formerly Twitter.

"'One Piece' with modern animation and good pacing is going to go insane. Hopefully, it brings more people into this amazing franchise," commented one X user, while another wrote, "By WIT? This can be awesome!"

A third netizen commented, "Remaking an ongoing series sounds insane but makes so much sense on the heels of the live-action and success fan-made projects like 'One Pace' have had. No longer staring down the barrel of a 1k+ episode entry point and sprinkling in modern animation is huge. This is really good!"

"I'm so excited for this. You guys don't understand," another quipped, while a fifth user said, "[Oh my god]. It gets better for 'One Piece' fans."

"HOLY S---? Am I dreaming? This is one of the biggest dream-come-true moments for me. 'ONE PIECE' might very well be the biggest franchise on the planet right now. And you can hardly argue that," stated someone else.

"Imagine being popular enough to have two anime adaptations running at the same time," another commented.

In other news, the live-action "One Piece" series was renewed for a second season last September, just two weeks after it debuted on Netflix.

It was created in partnership with Shueisha and produced by Tomorrow Studios and Netflix.
