Hoda Kotb shared an instance when Savannah Guthrie's book helped her navigate a difficult time as a mom.

Guthrie, 52, joined Kotb, 59, on Wednesday's episode of the "Making Space with Hoda Kotb" podcast, and the host got candid on how her guest's book helped her with parenting. Kotb admitted that there was a time when she questioned her capability as a mom.

"You know, what's funny, I read the book when you first sent [it] to me -- chapter by chapter," Kotb told Guthrie, referring to the latter's publication, titled "Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere," Page Six reported.

"And I reread it last night when I was going through a difficult time with my daughter, and I was worried, 'Am I enough? Am I doing it right?'"

Hotb noticeably got emotional as she recounted her feelings at the time. She remembered one specific line she read from the book that comforted her.

"It's so interesting because there is a part in here that -- I don't remember where it is now because I have so many dog ears -- but it makes a parallel on how God loves us like how we love our own children," Hotb said. "I had already read that, by the way, a few months ago, and it didn't hit me, but it hit me last night like it was meant for me in that moment."

Hoda didn't go into detail about what happened at home the night prior and which daughter she was referring to. However, both women agreed that motherhood is the most "transformative" and gratifying experience for them, despite the tough times that come with rearing children.

Guthrie is a mom of two. She shares daughter Vale, 9, and son Charley, 7, with her husband, Mike Feldman.

Kotb, for her part, is a single mom of two. She adopted Haley, 7, and Hope, 4, in 2017 and 2019, respectively, when she was still with her ex-fiancé Joel Schiffman. The former couple parted ways in 2022 after being together for eight years.

Kotb had always wanted to be a mother. However, after surviving breast cancer and a divorce, she gave up her dream of becoming a parent. Schiffman had been very supportive of Kotb's longing for motherhood, and she was thankful to him that they decided to adopt because she wasn't sure she could do it on her own.

"Sometimes relationships evolve. Sometimes, perfectly nice people can go their separate ways. Sometimes a relationship ends on your last breath, and sometimes it ends before that, and that's okay," Kotb previously told People Magazine about co-parenting with Schiffman and being a single mom, noting that there were no ill feelings between her and her ex.

"I don't regret one day, not one minute, not one second of our time together because it brought me here. I have two incredible children I share with him. And it's because of Joel that I have Haley and Hope, without question. I think I might have been too afraid to do it alone. That's not something I love to admit, but it's true."
