Sophie Grégoire Trudeau appeared to give Meghan Markle the cold shoulder in a new interview, causing social media users to speculate about what happened between them.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's former wife, who the Duchess of Susses once called a "dear friend," did not have much to say about Markle when asked about their relationship in a recent interview with The Times U.K.

Grégoire Trudeau seemingly played down her friendship with Markle, telling the publication: "I know her... but we haven't spent much time together."

She then moved on from the subject and talked about Markle's sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, sharing that her "heart just sunk" after learning about the Princess of Wales' cancer diagnosis last month.

Grégoire Trudeau's comments sparked speculation on social media that Markle may have "ghosted" her after she and Trudeau called it quits last year.

The Canadian prime minister and Grégoire Trudeau announced in August 2023 that they were separating after 18 years of marriage.

"[Meghan] probably has ghosted her now that Sophie and Trudeau have split. [Meghan] doesn't know what real friendship is," one user claimed on X, formerly Twitter.

Another person had a similar take, sarcastically writing that Grégoire Trudeau was now "useless" to Markle as "she is not Madame Trudeau anymore."

Others suggested that Grégoire Trudeau may be the one distancing herself from Markle amid the duchess' launch of her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.

"Oh dear," one X user wrote. "[Meghan Markle] appears to have overinflated her importance."

"If she began some kind of relationship with Ms. Trudeau, [Sophie] obviously distanced herself once she realized Megs lived in crazy town," another claimed.

Some X users suggested that it may be karma for Markle, who is estranged from her dad's side of the family and is rumored to have ghosted several friends after marrying Prince Harry.

"And there it is, getting a spoonful of her own medicine back," one person commented, while another quipped, "Markle has been markled by Sophie."

Grégoire Trudeau previously sat down for a chat with Markle in a November 2022 episode of the duchess' "Archetypes" podcast.

In the episode titled "Good Wife/Bad Wife, Good Mom/Bad Mom," the former "Suits" star reminisced about having a mommy pool party with the former eTalk correspondent when Trudeau and her children visited California in the summer of that year.

Markle shared that she and Grégoire Trudeau swam in the pool, enjoyed some wine and had a blast playing with pool floats, including an "inflatable pizza slice."

"This wasn't our day of being the wives and moms all perfectly coiffed with updos and pearls and demure smiles," Markle recalled. "This was the other version of us, both with wild curly hair and swimsuits and loose linen and huge belly laughs, big cuddles with our little ones, and quiet whispers of girl talk on the terrace, giddy like absolute schoolgirls. We were just having so much fun."

According to Markle, they became friends about nine years ago after they met at the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards (CAFA) at Soho House in Toronto, Canada, where the former actress was living while filming "Suits."

Markle described Grégoire Trudeau as a "dear friend" who helped her navigate her pregnancy with her son Prince Archie and the negative publicity she dealt with at the time.

The duchess said that her pal sent her meditations and voice notes and that she had gone to Grégoire Trudeau for advice over the years.

"I just absolutely adore you," Markle told Gregoire Trudeau in the episode.

Grégoire Trudeau was also one of the celebrities who backed Markle's 40x40 charitable initiative in 2021.

The project involved individuals dedicating 40 minutes of their day to helping a woman returning to the workforce after the COVID-19 pandemic.
