Katie Couric is reaching out to Kim Kardashian in an effort to make amends for an comment she recently made during an interview.

While talking with In Touch, the 56-year-old talk show host questioned the motives of those who would consider the Kardashians to be famous.

"I don't understand - why are they so famous? I think it's mostly teenage girls that are interested," Couric admitted.

When Kanye West's girlfriend and new mother of baby North received word of the slight, the Kardashian took to Twitter to express her displeasure.

"#IHateFakeMediaFriends #MayIHumblySuggestYouNotSendGiftsThenTalkSh-t," wrote the 32-year-old Keeping Up With The Kardashians star.

Accompanying the tweet was a photo of a baby gift Couric had sent her, along with a partially cut off message.

"Dear Kim and Kanye, congratulations on the birth of your baby girl! As the moth...and may I humbly suggest you continue the K tradition for na[mes]...Fondly, Katie Couric," read the accompanying card.

Following the revenge tweet, Couric issued a statement explaining her previous comment and apologizing for any offense the Kardashians may have taken.

"I've met Kim before and I think she's a really sweet person," Couric told E!.

"I was responding to a reporter's question, and explaining how I'm intrigued by the public's fascination with her family. I didn't mean to hurt her feelings. The gift is genuine, and I'm happy for Kim and Kanye."

Hopefully the two television personalities can move on from the incident.
