On Sunday night, Kanye West took the stage for the MTV Video Music Awards at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Performing Blood on the Leaves, the seventh track off his recently released Yeezus, the rapper brought a more mellow felling to the highly anticipated award show. Standing still at the mic for the beginning of the song, Kanye soon became a dancing silhouette in front of an autumn forest.

Although lacking the high production value of Lady Gaga's Applause and the shock factor of Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines, the simplicity of Kanye's performance spoke volumes and complemented the track's lyrics.

Boyfriend of Kim Kardashian and new father of baby North West, Kanye has had a busy few months between the June release of his seventh studio album and the birth of his daughter.

Preceded by an international, multi-city viewing of the single New Slaves, the performer's newest album took the airwaves by storm. Quickly climbing the charts to become No. 1 for American Rap and R&B, Yeezus also claimed the top spot in the UK, Australia, and Canada.

The album has already sold over 510,000 copies and is certified Gold by the RIAA.

With a new family to take care off, it remains to be seen how much time Kanye will spend on stage in the coming months.
