The Replacements played its first show in 22 years as headliners at the Riot Fest in Toronto on Aug. 25.

Frontman Paul Westberg, bassist Tommy Stinson, guitarist David Minehan, and drummer Josh Freese claimed the stage at the Fork York grounds, which were teeming with nearly 10,000 fans who showed up for the epic event.

The performance marked the band's first concert since a Fourth of July gig in 1991 at Grant Park in Chicago.

The Minneapolis-based band obliged fans on Sunday with an exhasutive 23 song-set, storming through hits like Bastards of Young, Androgynous, Left of the Dial and Takin a Ride. The iconic post-punk band was spirited on stage, engaging in light-hearted banter and jokes about why they deprived fans for so long.

Westerberg opened the show by apologizing to fans,

"Sorry we took so long. We've been having a wardrobe debate - it was unresolved," he said.

Later he gave the real reason for the band's fallout, blaming their label for suggesting that the band rein in the punk rock that was elemental to the its sound.

"They told us 'You can't do that stuff anymore.' We quit," Westberg said.

Westerberg also poked fun at the front row at one point by asking, "How long have you been here? Eight [a.m.]? Early day. Good stuff."

The entire concert is up for streaming on soundcloud.

The band has two more Riot Fest performances scheduled. They will be playing Sept. 15 in Chicago and Sept. 21 in Denver.
