Akon Challenges Fellow Celebrities to a Boxing Match, But There's One Criteria
"It don't matter" for Akon if he's venturing a new hobby.
Music star Akon can be credited with hits such as "Smack That" and "Lonely," but he's now hungry for a different type of action.
The 52-year-old singer recently spoke about his desire to enter the celebrity boxing world, claiming he's up for the challenge if the offer arises.
Akon Wants to Join Celebrity Boxing
In an unguarded interview on "THE UNTOLD" podcast, Akon made his intention clear as day: he's willing to fight.
"In my sleep. Please invite me in the ring!"
Although he did not mention a specific opponent, the singer's tone was clear: he is willing to throw punches if the right challenge presents itself.
What's One Criteria If a Celebrity Wants to Fight Akon?
When questioned about the kind of person he'd be willing to encounter, Akon wasn't shy. He listed that any athlete, comedian, rapper, or singer is open to fighting him.
However, TMZ Sports learned that Akon has a criterion about his opponent: genuine dislike.
The Senegalese-American artist said that it should be somebody who dislikes him. Akon knew that he had a hater out there, and this could be a perfect opportunity to release their hate to him.
This isn't all show. Akon actually appears to be keen on paying a score (real or not) back in the ring. His challenge opens the doors wide for entertainers from all industries to make it personal and lucrative.
In today's celebrity and influencer match-up era, that type of heat could easily sell tickets.
Is Celebrity Boxing Going to Be His Next Level?
Celebrity boxing has become a big entertainment business, enticing millions of spectators and dissolving the boundary between sport and popular culture.
Celebrities such as Jake Paul and KSI have made the trend a roaring success — and Akon could join their ranks.
In light of his aggressive assertion to battle "anyone who doesn't like him," it may not be long before Celebrity Boxing promoter Damon Feldman gets back on the phone.
Feldman has made a name for creating unconventional matchups, and Akon's combative attitude might be what the promotion needs to continue drawing fans.
