Sasha Baron Cohen apologized to American Idol host Ryan Seacrest two months after he spilled a container of ashes over the radio host at the Oscars.

Seacrest said on his radio show Monday that he met Cohen over the weekend backstage on "Saturday Night Live" without knowing he was going to appear in the show.

"Sorry about the Oscars, it wasn’t personal," Cohen reportedly told Seacrest backstage at "Saturday Night Live."

According to Seacrest the comedian was "very apologetic" and "genuine."

“He started telling me how it went down. Originally he said that they were going to spill whatever it was in that urn on George Clooney. Someone decided that wasn’t a great idea because he was up for a lot of nominations, it was a big night that night. Then they somehow spun the wheel of tragedy and landed on my name,” recalled Seacrest.

According to Seacrest, Cohen's wife Isla Fisher also apologized for her husband.

Cohen is promoting his new movie "The Dictator" in the United States. On Monday he appeared on the "Today" show with Matt Lauer and on "The Daily Show" with Jon Stewart dressed as his character General Aladeen.

On Tuesday he gave a rare interview out of character to Howard Stern. Cohen usually never gives interviews as himself.

When asked why he chose Stern to give the rare interview Cohen said:

"I'm a huge fan and I've been following your career for 20 years," he told Stern on "The Howard Stern Show" on Sirius XM Tuesday.

"What you were doing inspired me very early on because I thought, 'Alright, this is a guy who's got balls.' The fact that you didn't mind breaking the law or upsetting people -- I followed that role."

Cohen was wearing a black t-shirt and a brown leather jacket without fake beards or make-up.

Stern told the comedian that he was more fascinating out of character.

"Now that you're accomplished, people do want to speak to the real you. Though I would prefer that you only speak to me as you."

"The Dictator" is set for release on May 16.
