The latest trailer for the David O. Russell film American Hustle gives fans an interesting look at the mystery movie about a financial con artist and his partner who in turn rat out their own kind.

The 2013 movie, based on a true story, centers on Christian Bale's character and his mistress/partner-in-crime (Amy Adams) who are coerced into working with a rogue federal agent (Bradley Cooper) to nail other con artists, mobsters and corrupt politicians. As the drama unfolds, however, it becomes unclear as to who is scamming who.

"We've got to get over on all these guys, that's what we need to be thinking about right now. We've got to get over on all these guys," Adams character says in the trailer.

"It's got to be the best we've ever done," Bale's character replies.

The film also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, and Jeremy Renner.

The film pays close attention to details in costumes and makeup to represent the 1970's, including disguising Bale to a point where he is almost unrecognizable with a pot belly and elaborate comb over, something that is noted in the trailer.

"He wasn't necessarily in good shape, and he had this comb over that was rather elaborate," Adams' character says in voiceover showing her and Bale's characters together. "But he had this confidence that drew me to him."

Cooper is also cleverly costumed in the film, sporting a perm that is recreated on film by little pink curlers in the actor's hair.

The film, set to be released on Christmas Day, is expected to be a big Oscar contender. It reunites Russell, a three-time nominee, with several stars he has worked with in the past. Cooper, Lawrence and De Niro were all nominated this year for acting in Russell's Silver Linings Playbook. Lawrence won for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Adams and Bale co-starred in the director's The Fighter, which won the actress an Oscar and scored the actress a nomination.
