A dramatic trailer for Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past has been released and it provides a bit of insight into the upcoming film's chaos.

In the forthcoming film, Wolverine is sent to the past to alter a major historical event. The event has the potential to negatively impact humans and mutants alike.

Patrick Stewart's character Professor Charles Xavier narrates the majority of the clip, in which several of the X-Men also make an appearance. The professor urges Wolverine to travel back in time to convince the younger versions of Xavier and Magneto to work jointly.

"So I wake up in my younger body and then what?" Wolverine is heard asking.

Xavier responds, "Find me, lead me, guide me. Be patient."

Many of the other X-Men are also seen, including Mystique who sheds tears. In another scene, the mutant, played by Jennifer Lawrence, fights Magneto but appears to be losing. Michael Fassbender's character uses his power to drag Mystique towards him despite her resistance.

The tailer also teases Storm's appearance, who is seen using her own special powers. Halle Berry, who plays Storm, told Total Film in August that the movie contains a "pretty big" concept in regards to the threat the heroes face. She added, however, that there are tons of X-Men to combat the danger.

"I think it's big because there are so many X-Men in the movie," she said. "There's the young X-Men and there's the X-Men that started it all off. Just so many X-Men."

The trailer ends with the professor saying, "Please, we need you to hope again."

X-Men: Days of Future Past comes to U.S. theaters on May 23, 2014.
