Fans of Peter Parker's adventures won't have to wait long for some released footage from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, as the film's trailer will be shown in theaters when The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opens Dec. 13.

Director Marc Webb confirmed the news on Twitter by posting a cryptic photo that was later revealed to be written in Dwarven Runes, the language from The Hobbit movies. Twitter users familiar with the language later decoded the image as an announcement that the first ever trailer for the Spiderman sequel film will be in theaters attached to Hobbit.

The strategy is for Sony Entertainment and Columbia Pictures to promote the film in advance of its May 2014 release date. The trailer will presumably show Andrew Garfield's Spiderman/Peter Parker character facing off against powerful enemies including Rhino (Paul Giamatti) Electro (Jamie Foxx). The superhero struggles to keep his promise that he will leave love interest Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) out of his dangerous life.

The production company teased other potential villains in the film through its fake 'The Daily Bugle' Tumblr account, which produces false news stories from the paper Peter Parker's character works at. that the Tumble account teased the possibilities that Spidey would also face off against robotic Spider-Slayers and the Vulture in the film, Enstars previously reported.

The Spiderman film is also set to guest star Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn (a.k.a The Green Goblin), and Sally Field as Aunt May.
