Disney announced that it is developing a stage adaptation of The Princess Bride on Nov 11.

The famous 1987 film was adapted from William Goldman's 1973 novel of the same name. Goldman also wrote the screenplay for the movie. The deal for the stage adaptation was helmed by Disney's chairman, Alan Horn. No details on the nature of the adaptation have been revealed yet.

"The Princess Bride has proven to be an enduring delight and a beloved favorite to multiple generations," Thomas Schumacher, president and producer of Disney Theatrical Productions, said in a statement. "What William Goldman created is first and foremost a celebration of storytelling; what better place to spin that tale than on the stage?"

"I am thrilled that the next chapter in the life of The Princess Bridewill unfold on the stage," Goldman said. "With [Walt Disney Studios chairman] Alan Horn, Thomas Schumacher and his team at Disney Theatrical Productions leading the way, Buttercup, Westley and all of Florin are in the best of hands."

The film was directed by Rob Reiner and starred Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn, Fred Savage, Robin Wright, Peter Falk, Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, and Andre the Giant.

They comedy-drama follows the love story of Buttercup (Wright) and Westley (Ewes), as narrated to a young boy (Savage) by his grandfather (Peter Falk).

This production is not, in any way, related to the failed stage adaptation of the film and book, which was announced in 2005. The project eventually fizzled out because of rights issues between the composer Adam Guettel and Goldman
