A new lab report investigating the death of Brittany Murphy revealed that the late actress' passing may have been caused by poisoning.

Murphy died on Dec. 20, 2009 by reasons tied to complications as a result of pneumonia and anaemia. Murphy's husband, Simon Monjack, also died from the same causes in a matter of five months.

Murphy's father had always disputed the initial reports and believed that foul play was involved in his daughter's death. New reports suggested that the Clueless star might have ingested rat poison.

A large amount of heavy metals found in Murphy's hair sample were dangerous by World Health Organization standards, according to the report.

"Ten (10) of the heavy metals evaluated were detected at levels higher that the WHO [The World Health Organization] high levels. Testing the hair strand sample identified as back of the head we have detected ten (10) heavy metals at levels above the WHO high levels recommendation," the lab report read.

The report stated that Murphy might have been administered the rat poison with criminal intent.

"If we were to eliminate the possibility of a simultaneous accidental heavy metals exposure to the sample donor then the only logical explanation would be an exposure to these metals (toxins) administered by a third party perpetrator with likely criminal intent," it read.

Murphy's father Angelo Bertolotti wants authorities to reopen the death investigation, he told the Daily News Monday.

"The lab has shown that she was poisoned with criminal intent," Bertolotti said. "We would like the investigation opened again to discover who did it. So as not to jeopardize the new investigation, I can't say who I suspect as of yet."

Monjack and Murphy married in April 2007.
