A British man who allegedly hacked into Selena Gomez' Facebook page and accessed her emails has been jailed for 12 months. Gareth Crosskey, 21, who works at a fast-food restaurant, hacked into the singer's account in January 2011, by posing as Gomez' stepfather. He somehow persuaded Facebook staff to reset the administrative password for the account.

At that time, Crosskey had posted on her Facebook: "Justin Bieber sucks!", enraging Justin Bieber fans. Crosskey also read personal messages between Bieber and Gomez, whose relationship was not made public at that time. According to the DailyMail, Crosskey then contacted OK! and Hollywood Life magazines, offering them information about Gomez before her relationship with Bieber became public.

The former McDonald's worker also contacted Gomez' stepfather, claiming to have hacked into her email accounts and copying the messages sent between her and Bieber. He also boasted about how he hacked her account, by posting a YouTube video on how he did it.

Crosskey was jailed on Wednesday, charged with two counts of illegally accessing data - which violate the Computer Misuse Act.
"You are clever with a computer and you hacked into the private part of somebody's Facebook account - that somebody was a singer, a celebrity called Selena Gomez," said Judge John Price at Southwark Crown Court, according to DailyMail. "People deserve privacy and should not their private correspondence by email made public. People are entitles to privacy even those who seek publicity."
