Singer Carrie Underwood has a message for all of the critics who slammed her performance of her Sound of Music Live! that aired December 6.

Underwood, who portrayed Maria von Trapp, tweeted Friday, "Plain and simple: Mean people need Jesus. They will be in my prayers tonight... 1 Peter 2:1-25."

Despite what others said about her performance, Underwood was pleased. Thursday she tweeted, "Glory to God tonight...I couldn't be more proud. What a tough thing to pull off and we did it! I am so blessed!"

One of Underwood's famous critics who joined in on the disapproval of her performance via Twitter was Kym Karath, who played the original Gretl von Trapp in the 1965 musical movie The Sound of Music.

She expressed her disappointment Thursday and wrote, "Must admit some scenes were actually painful to watch. Love Carrie Underwood but this role is just not right for her. She is lovely her voice is beautiful but acting is wrong."

Karath wasn't the only person who downed Underwood's performance.

One user tweeted, "I'm sorry but I'm still hung up on how bad Carrie Underwood's acting was in Sound of Music Live! Like actually..."

A member of the real life von Trapp family spoke on being concerned about Underwood's casting when she first snagged the part several months ago.

Maria von Trapp's grandson, Miles, revealed that he would have had Anne Hathaway play the role due to her performance in the successful musical Les Miserables.

He said, "It's just upsetting that this could potentially be the final broadcast of our story. And although [Underwood's] voice is amazing, she doesn't have acting experience... It's just the overall image, she's a country star, she won American Idol, she's very public in kind of a tabloid way."

Sound of Music Live! had 18.5 million viewers and snagged a 4.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
