Games of Thrones' Emilia Clarke bagged the role of Sarah Connor for the fifth installment in the Terminator series.

Clarke beat out several other actresses for the coveted part, including Brie Larson (The Spectacular Now), Tatliana Maslany (Orphan Black) and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street).

It had also been rumored that director Alan Taylor and returning star Arnold Schwarzenegger -- who will be playing the part of a human with superhuman powers tasked with protecting Sarah Connor and her family -- wanted to hire the female lead first. Taylor has also directed episodes of Game of Thrones, which Clarke stars in, which might have had something to do with his opting for Clarke.

In an interview with Moviefone published on Nov. 7, the director spoke about working on Thor and how his working on Game of Thrones helped with directing the film.

"Every challenge seems potentially daunting. I don't think I could have done the job if I hadn't done Game of Thrones because it got me comfortable with epic imagery and stunts and chopping people's hands off and stuff," he said. "And I don't think I would have been offered the job without it. But I was going in pretty weary, and it wasn't the scale, because having shot in Iceland with White Walkers and stuff."
