After his awful leg injury at UFC 168, Anderson Silva spoke for the first time post-surgery via his Twitter page.

Silva tweeted on Sunday to his loyal fans and followers, "Thank you to all my fans and friends, I will be better soon, now I need to be with my family to recovering better.." He also uploaded a picture of him and his family laughing together. His tweet made no mention of a comeback and only focused on his desire to be with his family.

Silva broke his left tibia and fibula in a match verses Chris Weidman on Saturday night, Dec. 28. Below is a video of the kick that broke his leg. (Warning: it is not for the squeamish.)

He was immediately rushed into surgery. Dr. Steven Sanders issued a statement on the success of the procedure, stating that a normal recovery time or "three to six months" is to be expected.

UFC president Dana White had this to say on the extremely unfortunate injury to one of UFC's greatest champs: "Anderson Silva has been amazing. He's one of the greatest of all time, if not the best ever. It's a (expletive) way to see him go out, but it's part of the game."

Is The Spider's career as a fighter over or will sports fans be treated to his comeback?

Kevin Ware, a member of the Louisville basketball team, had a similar injury back in last years NCAA Tournament. He returned the following season and was recorded dunking a basketball six months after the injury. The only difference between the two injuries was that Ware's was worse than Silva's, as his bone actually protruded out of his leg.
