The Avengers may be Earth's mightiest heroes, but the disparate group needs a unifying force to draw them back together for The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Luckily for our super powered friends, writer/director Joss Whedon has just the right villain to rally the troops. Ultron, although not derived from the same origin as Hank Pym's robotic terror, has deep roots in the Marvel world but is still malleable enough for writers to create an entirely new story around. While the films baddie seems to be sorted, fans are now questioning whether Whedon has placed too many heroic cooks in the kitchen when it comes to battling Ultron.

'Avengers 2' Trailer: Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver Official Cast By Marvel, Will Siblings Cause Problems For Avengers? VIDEO

The first Avengers film was based around an ensemble cast of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), the Hulk, (Mark Ruffalo), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth). Now Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) have been pulled in alongside these icons, it remains to be seen just how complicated the story gets.

"It's always a balance with any movie, not to overwhelm it with too many story elements," said Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios' president of production, according to SFX Magazine (via Yahoo! Movies). "Certainly when it comes to comic book movies, you can fall into the trap of having too many villains and in the case of team-based movies, having too many heroes. But what Joss has in mind to bring those characters into the story happens in a very natural fashion over the course of the story."

Will Whedon's script be able to carry the weight of two more superheroes (and one possible new villain)? If the X-Men franchise can pull it off, surely Marvel's highly planned cinematic universe should have few issues.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2015.
