Marvel Studios made a startling announcement on Monday regarding the casting the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver for Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Well, it would be surprising if the news hadn't been leaked several months ago. However, Marvelites now have official confirmation that Aaron Taylor-Johnson will fill the shoes of Quicksilver while Elizabeth Olsen is set to take on the role of the Scarlet Witch.

The sibling duo will join the Avengers crew as they fight Joss Whedon's re-imagined Ultron. Although they are the children of X-Men's Magneto, the heroes' mutant background will not be discussed in the film.

Writer/Director Joss Whedon instead chose to include the Witch and her speedster brother to round out the Avengers abilities.

"One of the problems I had on the first one was, everybody basically had punchy powers. 'I can hit,' 'I can also hit,'" Whedon said on Late Night back in May. "But coming into the second one, Quicksilver got super speed. Scarlet Witch can weave spells and a little telekinesis, get inside your head."

However, having the Eastern European duo on the team does not mean the Avengers will find their presence helpful in an already dysfunctional group dynamic.

"You know, they had a rough beginning," Whedon told IGN. "They're interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn't necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they're not there to make things easier. I'm not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier."

Avengers: Age of Ultron will hit theaters in 2015.
