Tamara Ecclestone Loses £380,000 Lamborghini in Custody Battle Against Ex-Boyfriend
Tamara Ecclestone, daughter of Formula One mogul Bernie, lost a custody battle against her ex-boyfriend, Omar Khyami, over a £380,000 Lamborghini, which she had allegedly gifted to him on his birthday when they were still together.
The British-Croatian heiress to the Formula One empire -- Bernie is the Chief Exective and part owner of the company -- had reclaimed the car after her break-up from Khyami in July 2012. Khyami disputed her claim over the car, a Lamborghini Aventador, in court as it was essentially a birthday gift and rightfully his. Tamara had given it to him on his 38th birthday. Khyami had used the car to pay off a debt he owed for a Bentley he bought for Tamara as a gift.
Tamara orginally bought the car from Elite Cars Ltd. and claimed that it was not a gift but was intended for Khyami's use for as long as they were living together. The car was later taken away from Khyami as a recourse to claiming the debt he owed to Tamara.
The courts finally ruled in Khyami's favor. The judge, Justice Dingemans, who presided over the case, stated the Lamborghini had "caused everyone far more trouble than it is worth."
While Tamara did not comment on the verdict in person, a spokesman for the 29-year-old did convey her disappointment. Her spokesman reiterated that the car was "never intended as a gift."
"The judge was correct when he said the car had been more trouble than its worth and this has been a difficult time for Tamara and her family," he added.
Tamara is currently expecting her first child with her husband Jay Rutland. The couple were very recently spotted in Switzerland on a brief getaway with Bernie. The trio were enjoying themselves and looked very happy. The Daily Mail also revealed some pictures from the trip.
