A musical adaptation of the Michael J. Fox film, Back to the Future, is set to hit theaters in London in 2015, right around the 30th anniversary of the film.

In the past, there had been talks about the 1985 film (co-written by Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis and drirected by Zemeckis) being adapted into a Broadway musical.

The duo are working on the musical in collaboration with Amblin Entertainment, Universal Stage Productions (Billy Elliot, Wicked) and producer Colin Ingram.

Gale commented on the project via the official film website stating that they couldn't think of a better way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film.

"The Back to the Future musical is a project that Bob Zemeckis and I have been exploring for almost ten years," he said. "We're thrilled to be at last in partnership with a creative and producing team that will create a show that is true to the spirit of the film without being a slavish remake."

The musical will be directed by Jamie Lloyd and Alan Silvestri will be composing music, with lyrics by Glen Ballard. Soutra Gilmour take on both set and costume design, with Paul Kieve on illusions, Jon Clark on lighting deisgn and ALan Williams on musical supervision.

Gale also stated that they intended on mixing music that was used for the original films along with brand new songs, to induce a freshness to the film and allowed them to make the most of the stage. Some of the old music that will be used include songs like The Power of Love and Johnny B. Goode.

Gale suggested that they really looked forward to working with the team they had chosen for the musical.

"With all of us working together, we know the integrity of the material will be preserved in a production that will be a wonderful companion to the Trilogy," he said.
