Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has signed on to play the role of a Kalari fighter in a new film by director P. Vasu.

The South-Indian filmmaker recently made the announcement stating that Bachchan will be starring in his yet untitled, multilingual -- Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi ----- film.

In a statement the director suggested that the Bollywood star was "really impressed" by the script and fans will be in for a bit of a surprise seeing her in this unique mold.

"She will be seen in a never seen before powerful role. She will essay a Kalari fighter in the film and for the same she will undergo special stunt training," he said.

The project seems to be an ambitious one as the director also suggested that they would be bringing in some of the best visual effects professionals from other parts of the world and the film would be shot in various locations in India and abroad.

Bachchan's Daughter Aaradhya Strikes A Pretty Pose.

"Major visual effects companies are being considered. Animatronics experts from France are being hired for the visual effects in the film, which will be shot in exotic locales of North Indian and some important portions in Cambodia," he added.

The film will be produced by K. Ramesh of Global One Studios.

Bachchan has not confirmed her involvement in the project yet.

Currently Bachchan, who has been missing from the film scene since she gave birth to her daughter Aaradhya and busied up with mom duties, is gearing up to making her comeback in Bollywood with a Mani Ratnam film. She will be starring with South Indian actors Nagarjuna and Mahesh Babu. The movie might also feature Kamal Hassan's daughter Shruthi Hassan, who recently started out as an actress in the Indian film industry.

The film will be bilingual (Tamil-Telugu) and production is expected to begin later this year. The last film Rai worked with Ratnam on was Raavan (2010). The film also starred her husband Abhishek Bachchan.
