Teresa and Joe Giudice pleaded guilty to charges of fraud in front of a judge in Newark on Tuesday.

Why Teresa and Joe Had to Plead Guilty

Real Housewives of New Jersey stars Teresa and Joe Giudice pleaded guilty to charges of bank, loan and wire fraud after sources say the couple resolved a deal with prosecution. At 3 p.m., the couple appeared in front of U.S. District Judge Esther Salas in a crowded Newark, N.J. courtroom. Their date of sentencing will now be on July 8.

According to North Jersey reports, Teresa will only face 21 to 27 months in prison, while her husband will face a minimum of 3-4 years. Teresa's lawyer, Henry E. Klingeman, asked the judge to consider their four children when sentencing.

Teresa Giudice is Business as Usual Among Legal Problems

The reality star couple left the court room in a hurry, doing their best to avoid questions from the press and fans who awaited their exit. Though neither of them spoke, Giudice's lawyer did read a statement from his client.

"Today, I took responsibility for a series of mistakes I made several years ago. I have said throughout that I respect the legal process and, thus, I intend to address the court directly at sentencing," he said on her behalf.

He continued, "I will describe the choices I made, continue to take responsibility for my decisions, and express my remorse to Judge Salas and the public. I am heartbroken that this is affecting my family - especially my four young daughters, who mean more to me than anything in the world."

The statement also emphasized that Teresa Giudice will not be speaking about the case outside of court. Most likely, fans will not see much of the proceedings when Real Housewives of New Jersey returns this summer.
