Natasha Romanoff's (Scarlett Johansson) alliance with SHIELD and frequent missions with Caps (Chris Evans) will cause the formidable fighting hero to question some of her motives and the lasting effects of past experiences.

"You'll get more of Widow's back story in Avengers 2. She has a rich, rich past," Johansson said, according to TV3. "She definitely comes from a really dark past, she's had to de-sensitise or de-humanise in way to be able to do and see some of the things she's seen and participated in willingly."

While Romanoff exuded confidence and skill during 2012's Avengers, it will be "like the rug has been pulled from under her feet" during Joss Whedon's follow up endeavor.

''I think she' s sort of now grappling with the fact that she maybe experiencing some trauma from that, or at least that she has feelings about things, maybe she doesn't sleep so well at night," Johansson explained to TV3. "It's hitting her now that she's been acting as a gun for hire, and in doing that she's never really made any active choices."

Considering Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president of production, has hinted that a solo Black Widow film could be in the pipeline, perhaps this upcoming storyline will spill over into the heroine's next project.
