The premiere for FX Network's new, 10-episode limited series Fargo is only a few days away, and while it is riddled with the same type of dark humor as its highly regarded predecessor, it apparently is a story all its own.

Tuesday, FX will debut the Fargo television series set in 2006, about a drifter "with a goofy hairdo" named Lorne Malvo who arrives in Bemidji, Minn. and influences the population, including salesman Lester Nygaar, via malice and violence.

On April 10, Mercury News described the new series, stating, "Fargo isn't a sequel, or prequel, or even really a spinoff of the Coen brothers' beloved 1996 cult hit. Instead, it's an all-new "true crime" story that follows a fresh case and brand new characters.

Likewise, the series will feature Hollywood stars like Billy Bob Thornton as Lorne Malvo, Colin Hanks as Gus Grimly and Martin Freeman as Lester Nygaard in place of the movie's character, Jerry Lundegaard, originally played by William H. Macy.

"I think when something's really good, like Fargo was, fans will want to see more. It's the kind of movie that lends itself to expanding. Same place. Same type of people. New stuff happens," said Thornton in regards to the upcoming FX series.
