The Simpsons is about to kill off one of its characters, and it's reportedly going to be someone that fans know and love.

Hank Azaria Addresses Character Deaths?

There are several theories going around on which of the cartoon characters will be taken off the series. In a conference call with producer Al Jean published on TVLine on Tuesday, it was revealed that the episode is going to be huge.

"This is going to be a bigger deal than King Joffrey on Game of Thrones- the Yellow Wedding!" Jean said. "The character that dies is portrayed by an actor who won an Emmy for playing that character. People who reported on it then reported we were killing an 'iconic' character; I'd like to say it's a great character, but I never used the word 'iconic.' It's a terrific character and it [happens in] our premiere this coming year."

Judd Apatow Dishes On Writing An Episode?

It also turns out that whoever gets killed off could still make an appearance in a future episode.

"We always had kind of a flexible reality," Jean said.

The Simpsons has had its history of bringing back random characters for episodes, including Maude Flanders for a Halloween episode.

With all the options going around, there is plenty of curiosity on who could die. Check out the slideshow for some potential candidates.
