Despite giving off several signs that they were in a good place and still together, it appears that Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling may be reconsidering their relationship once again.

Ryan Gosling Flies To Cannes Film Festival Without Girlfriend Eva Mendes?

The actress was noticeably absent from the Cannes Film Festival this week, where her boyfriend's directorial debut, Lost River, premiered, and the couple could be parting ways once again.

Not only was Mendes not at the festival to begin with, but her absence is even more noticeable following Gosling's film being panned by critics. Fellow actor Ryan Reynolds' offering, The Captive, was also panned by critics, but wife Blake Lively was present and at his side through the whole festival, and the two even skipped the after party for the film to send time together.

Eva Mendes Giving Ryan Gosling a Makeover?

The possibility that Mendes is breaking up with Gosling following his criticized debut as a director is just the latest in a slew of news that appears to be painting the couple's relationship in a negative light once again. Gosling's solo appearance at Cannes comes on the heels of reports that Mendes has been trying to change his wardrobe to be one she approves of.

Mendes "gets annoyed when Ryan goes overboard on the man-jewelry and she's not crazy about the fact that he's always wearing thrift store rings and second-hand necklaces and pendants," a source told Radar Online May 16.

To solve the issue with Gosling's choice in accessories, Mendes has reportedly begun actively picking out outfits for the actor that don't allow for him to pair the clothes with jewelry.

It appears the couple may once again have a hit a rough patch in their three-year relationship, which has often been plagued with break-up rumors. The couple has not been photographed together since November 2013, making them the constant subjects of break-up rumors the past few months.

Rumors even stated at one point that Gosling was leaving his girlfriend to rekindle his relationship with former girlfriend and The Notebook co-star Rachel McAdams.

Sources told OK! Magazine in March that McAdams was trying to win Gosling back, and that he has been somewhat receptive to the idea.

"Rachel has been very low-key about it all," the source said at the time. "She's played it very smart and used the whole 'just friends' angle to get close to Ryan again, but she 100 percent wants him back. He' not the cheating type, but he hasn't been honest with Eva about how much contact he has with Rachel."

Gosling and McAdams' relationship, which ended after two years back in 2007, has been known as one which Gosling looks back at fondly. In an interview with GQ shortly after the couple broke up, he even called McAdams one of the great loves of his life.

"I mean, God bless The Notebook," Gosling said at the time. "It introduced me to one of the great loves of my life. But people do Rachel and me a disservice by assuming we were anything like the people in that movie. Rachel and my love story is a hell of a lot more romantic than that."

However, rumors also claimed that those reports were false, and the actor and Mendes were actually secretly engaged and planning a wedding.
