Falling Skies will flip the 2nd Mass on their heads this summer, and the season will set Hal up for an interesting future.

Pope Clashes With A Different Mason On 'Falling Skies'? New Rivalries & Love Interests For The 2nd Mass

The eldest of Tom Mason's (Noah Wyle) children (not counting the rapidly aging Lexi), Hal (Drew Roy) will be coming into his own during his father's early season 4 absence. While the first half of the year will see Hal take on a leadership role, Roy believes that the latter part of the season will have the most impact on his character's future arc.

"What happens this fourth season, especially the second half of the season, it's a very transformative year for Hal. I'm really excited as to where it could go in the fifth season," Roy told Red Carpet News at May's MCM Comic Con in London. "It's hard for me to sort of talk about what direction that would be without sort of giving things away but I'm about as excited for the next season as I was at the end of...the second season when Hal was going through what wound up being the evil side of things. It was obviously setting up for something that was so different from what Hal usually is. I feel like some things not like that but in a way it's a whole other side of Hal that we could possibly see next season."

What could possibly prompt another change in Hal's personality? It is probably safe to rule out eye bugs, we've been there and seen that, but there are several season 4 conflicts that could have lasting impacts on the Mason brother. These include Hal's love triangle with Maggie (Sarah Carter) and Ben (Connor Jessup), his possible involvement with the 2nd Mass' Beamer expedition (check out his plane-themed set photo here), and a possible run-in with the Espheni's human skiterization project (Roy can be seen donning fangs in the photo above, although it is unknown whether or not he was joking around).
