It seems like Marvel's latest leading man could have also led some of the biggest blockbusters in recent years.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt revealed that he tried out for the lead role of Jake Sully in James Cameron's Avatar, which eventually went to Sam Worthington, and for the role of Captain Kirk in JJ Abrams' Star Trek reboot, which went to Chris Pine.

"They said they want somebody that has 'that thing,' that 'It factor' ... I walked into that room knowing that I did not have that thing, and I walked out thinking I would never have that thing, probably ... I figured," Pratt said. "I'll find a way to make money and if that means I'm playing character roles, that's terrific. People have to work. I just don't want it to be at a f---ing restaurant."

Pratt added that he initially was hesitant to take on Guardians and turned down the role at first. "I was probably scared," he said. "And thought I was too fat to play a superhero. I didn't want another Captain Kirk or Avatar moment."

But maybe Pratt wasn't crazy. Director James Gunn added that he was initially resistant to idea of Pratt playing Peter Quill or Star-Lord. "That's the chubby guy from Parks and Rec -- you've got to be kidding," Gunn told Entertainment Weekly. "Eventually he came in and I knew within 20, 30 seconds he was the guy."

Pratt can next be seen in Guardians of the Galaxy and in next year's Jurassic World.
